My Toshiba notebook and XP home edition are six years old. Everything seems
to work fine yet I keep getting messages I need to update to service pack 2.
All updates I've tried in the past to Windows programs causes my computer to
crash. Do you think I can just keep going with my old soft/hardware?

SP2 has many security updates, and some cool improvements to the OS.
I'm not a fan of everything it has (think "Security Panel") but you
should probably grab it if you are still using this machine and it is on
the Internet.

You can uninstall the update if you choose, as long as you create a
backup of current files/setting when the SP2 installer asks if you want
it to.
