Windows Help Index

I am unable to get the Index in Help and support. I only
get a white box with a small white box and red x in the
upper left-hand corner. I am running Win XP Pro. I have
all updates installed and am using Spy-bot, Ad-aware, and
Zone Alarm (std). There are no apparent viruses. I ran
SFC scannow and that seemed ok also. I re-installed
Win XP Pro (as an upgrade to keep my exiting
programs/files) because a couple of my programs (notepad
& system restore) quit working. Perhaps I should have left
well enough alone. I need some help.

I'd recommend double-checking that you've applied Critical Update
811630, which installs the latest versions of the help viewer
components. If you've successfully installed this update then your
version of the file \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\hhctrl.ocx should be 5.2.3735.0.
