Windows has recovered from a serious error

This error message showed up on my computer and now the computer boots up and
goes into Windows, but that's all it does. Attempts to bring up task manager
or to use system restore do not work, it just sits there. To my knowledge, I
did not download anything new or delete anything before this started
happening. Please help!!!

Zipping the folders may do what you want.

Repair the system.

If you run an XP "Upgrade"setup, from the original, or "Gold" version of the setup CD, and you have SP2 installed, it might go into
a setup loop, and you could lose your install. Uninstall SP2, BEFORE you Upgrade setup from CD (that lacks sp2 on it.)
