Windows Has No Clue that SD Reader is Plugged in USB Port

Windows has no clue that SD Reader is plugged in the USB Port. It know that
I plug other things in, like my printer, my cell phone, my PDA. I get the
little ding-dong noise, and then an icon appears in the system tray. With my
printer, the printer utility comes up.

But with my new SD Card Reader, nothing. Not one thing. As far as WindowsXP
is concerned, the USB port is empty. There is NOT a prompt for drivers.
There is NOT a message of anykind. But it seems to recognize everything
else. Why won't it recognize the SD Reader? The reader did not come with
software. The packaging said that software was not necessary.

Although the usbstor.sys and usbstor.inf files were not in the
system32\drivers folder, I have moved them there, and still it has made no
difference. Why is my system clueless to the presence of my SD Card reader,
that supposed to be able to double as a Flash Drive?

Once you put a card in the reader, you may have to assign it a drive
letter.......

Right click on My Computer and select Manage.... on the following screen
click on Disk Management....

Anything show up on the right hand side?

I have gotten my card reader to work. Here is what I had to do:

Add a PCI USB Card.

The on-board, for whatever reason, is not compatible with storage devices. I
had updated my BIOS, which had not worked. The Card Reader said it was USB
1.1 compatible. But, when I plugged it into my new USB PCI Card, it worked
like a charm.
