Hello,
can anyone tell me how to REMOVE items from the startup process in msconfig?
I disabled several programs, and now I get this annoying message every time
I start the computer. I want to NOT just disable the items, but remove them
from the list. Microsoft has published a help on this:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/930367
but it is totally useless. I want to do something like method three listed
on this page, but when I go to the "programs and features" and click
uninstall, the only option is to completely uninstall the program. I want to
keep the program, I just don't want it in the startup process. Help!

I have the SAME problem/question. I went to the article you showed above
and it was no help. I posted a comment on the bottom of the page -- let's
see where that goes!

I'm surprised Microsoft MVPs don't address this problem -- it's a royal
pain. We already KNOW what programs we blocked from the startup process and
we don't need a constant popup telling us about it.

If you get an answer, please post it!

using MSCONFIG to control startup programs is not the best way.
you need to check the options on each program and disable its ability to "start with windows" or what its wording is.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Delete the item you want to disable, or better yet enter a semicolon at the front of the Data entry

Go to Windows Defender > Tools > Software explorer > Select 'Startup
Programs' from drop-down >select the evil program and click Remove button.
