startup program -disable

I'm attempting to disable adobe photoshop from my "startup programs" (in
windows defender, Software explorer). I followed the instructions to disable
but when I highlight any program (ie Adobe photoshop) the "remove - disable
-enable" buttons are greyed out and don't work. I checked adn this is tru of
all the programs in the startup programs list.

HELP!

Defender should work to do that. I would suspect some tinkering with your
Permissions. Open regedit and look at the RUN keys to delete any unwanted
Values from the right pane.
HKEY_Current_User/.... AND
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

The EDIT menu in regedit will have a Permissions setting to re-allow access
to you.

This utility should help remove the Malware settings.

I'm not sure what qualifies as "unwanted"

In the right pane (in both cases) teh only item is Name: "ab" (an icon)
"(default)" type: REG_SZ

I attempted to didable the items through "msconfig". Reboot and see if that
works! Your instructions seem a bit over my head as I don't understand what,
exactly, I'm tinkering with.

Thanks

AS I said, the "remove - disable -enable" buttons are greyed out and don't
work.

But thanks, I'm trying to disable through msconfig. Wish me luck!

Disabling it through msconfig worked!

Getting to the point where my new Vista system as ALMOST as good as my old
XP set-up. Well, not really.

Thanks again!
