Windows Genuine Advantage false positive on new laptop with legit OS

Hi,
A friend of mine bought a new Acer Travelmate laptop in the US with
Windows XP SP2 in Spanish. Obviously besides everything there is also a CD
with an OEM Recovery CD and a sort of leaflet or booklet with an seal
stating that the Windows XP version is original.

Now, a couple of weeks ago she started getting a WGA false positive on her
legitimate installation (from the factory) or her new Acer laptop!!!!

This is very annoying, not to mention that you buy a new laptop from a
reputable manufacturer and shop and end up getting screwed by this MS tool
that I hear (and see) that is far from perfect!!! (1 out of 5 legitimate
copies fail for what I read).

Is there a way to get this fixed up other than not buying any more products
subject to this customer-screwing tactic?

Although your numbers are way high, in my experience - WGA is far from
perfect. However - being an OEM and so new - your friend's direct OS
support *is* where they bought it from/Acer.

In other words - call the support for said product. Acer chose to sell them
an OEM copy - which means they agreed to provide your OS support as well as
hardware.

Buying a NEW laptop/computer does not mean that the OS is legit - what
store did the person purchase it from?

There have been a number of posters here that have purchased new
computers and found that they had pirated copies of XP, and they were
pirated, as confirmed by authorities.

Why would you not post the details?

He didn't say he bought it FROM Acer - only that he bought a new Acer.

Leythos,

Notice...

"... where they bought it from/Acer ..."

I made no assumptions... The slash indicates and 'or' situation..

"where they bought it from or Acer."

Sorry, I didn't understand the From/Acer as being an Or clause.

Well there is no Acer support in this country.

Leythos,
Your comment suggests that I am hiding information on purpose for some
obscure reason and that is incorrect.

The system was bought in the U.S.A. however, if you read correctly I
mentioned it is from a friend of mine and I assume you would
understand -rather than improperly assume- that I do not have such detailed
information at hand, ok?

You just didn't take it properly. I read your statement for exactly what
was provided, I did not read anything into it.

If you don't provide enough details you can't get a proper answer unless
people GUESS at the missing details.

I made no assertion that you "purposely" left anything to hide anything,
you just appear to not like a unassuming response to the amount of
details you provided.

Nothing you posted gives me or anyone reason to be sure that the OS was
legit, and we've all seen cases where people have purchased "New"
systems that contained pirated copies of OS.

If this is for anyone you care about, why not get the details and post
them so that we can help.
