Windows Font Change Disaster

Today two of my three PCs (XP Home) woke up with symbols instead of
characters. They are all connected on a home LAN and were working fine
yesterday. The third PC, which continues to work OK, is a laptop. All three
are running SP2 and have the latest Windows updates. I have run virus
checking and found nothing. I have rolled back to the last restore point and
now everything appears to be working OK.

Any clues as to what has happened?

It sounds like font or video corruption. You could check for updated
display drivers for those systems that had display problems.
