Windows Firewall reverts to Off when I restart computer

Hi

I had NAV, but I disabled it in favor of the Windows firewall because I am
on a home wireless and NAV kept interferring and since I'm not very technical
solving the problems was a bit too much.

Now, however, everytime I turn off and restart the computer - ends up being
about once a week - the windows firewall is OFF as a default. I have to do a
bunch of steps to make it work again.
1. I then go to Network Connections, and choose the Wireless Network
Connection, and then go to Properties, where I select the Wireless Networks
tab and have to check off the "use windows to configure my wireless..." box.
2. Then I click on the Advanced tab and choose Windows Firewall Settings and
click on the button to turn it on.
3. THen I go back to the Network Connections window, and hit "repair this
connection", and finally I am back online and firewalled.

Is there any way to tell Windows to make this the default? Why does it
revert to an Off setting everytime I restart? Does it have to do with Norton?
I have Norton internet security, and it checks for viruses, but the firewall
is turned off.

Hello , I have NAV Internet Security also using wireless networking . Windows
Firewall is "Disabled" . NAV Personal Firewall is "Enabled" . The router has
its own Firewall {always on} I assume . The "Windows Security Center"
indicates Firewall is "on" because it is on by way of NAV Personal Firewall .
By the way , if you choose to disable the NAV Personal Firewall , do so by
Opening NAV / this will open to "Status & Settings" / click "Personal
Firewall" / select "Turn Off" -or- select "Configure" to access adjustments
.... maybe set to "Medium" if you perfer the NAV's Firewall to be turned on .
But certinly do not leave Anti Virus disabled . Also , a Firewall is a
serious protection device , find a Firewall you like and keep it turned on .

That's not the OP's problem. He said he's using the Windows firewall,
not NAV's.

I have exactly the same problem as the OP.
Have NAV/NIS. Don't use the NAV/NIS firewall (turned off).
I use the Windows firewall.
Every time I restart, the Windows firewall has been turned off.
Why is that?

Because that's the way NIS works. It turns off the Windows firewall. You
have to uninstall it to stop this. Even then some versions still don't
change back all the relevant registry keys and you will still have problems
with the Windows firewall.

Thanks for the answer. I figured it had something to do with NAV/NIS. All my
problems seem to stem from Norton and Windows not playing together nicely.

I'm experimenting with putting Norton's firewall back on, maybe the problems
I had before - being constantly kicked off my own network - will magically
dissappear with the new year.

Suggest uninstalling the complete Symantec package, all of it. Then,
reinstall NAV only after satisfied all is uninstalled. This is a custom
install using the Symantec installation software.
