windows FAX console

Hi, I have this problem with FAX Console on windows XP, this works
unattended so we don't monitor every fax we receive.

Lately we have reports of people that FAX us, even they show us the
ticked their fax print as successfully sent. but in the fax console we
have no that fax. We really don't know what's going on, is there any
log file that shows a failed connection or something like that?, why
the sender gets the FAX as sent ok when we haven't received that fax.

Do you EVER receive faxes correctly? Even if you do, you should know
that WinXP Fax service is notoriously flakey. See
http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/FAQFAX.htm, especially #12.

I assume that you have configured the fax to answer automatically, but
also the computer must be on -- and not in standby -- unless you have
checked the box in your faxmodem properties to "Allow this device to
wake the system from standby".

Does the Fax Monitor window pop up? (This has the "log file" that you
mentioned.) By default, the Fax Monitor opens automatically when the
modem detects an incoming fax. But you can change when and why it opens
on the Tracking tab of the Fax Properties dialog box. If you set this
appropriately, you should be able to see if your modem has received and
answered calls from the fax machines in question but then failed to
receive the fax. If the problems always occur with the same sender,
perhaps you can ask them to slow down the speed of their fax
transmission. Or ask them to send a test fax while you're sitting in
front of the computer and watching what happens.

Finally, try posting this question (with a better subject, like "can
only receive some faxes") in microsoft.public.windowsxp.print_fax Be
sure to note what version of WinXp you have, including service pack, and
whether or not you have any Norton/Symantec security appl'n installed.

I assume that you have at least installed Service Pack 1, but just in
case, see this 2004 post from MS-MVP Russ Valentine:

A number of standard update and repair procedures disabled the Fax
Monitor in the initial release of Windows XP. These problems were fixed
in Service Pack 1. Make sure you apply SP1 if you notice this problem.
