windows explorer

i updated to windows xp. in the past in widows explorer i could have the folders on the left and on the right the files of the pics. if i had i had highlighted a file it showed a thumbnail of the pic in the center with the details of all files still to the right. can this be done on windows xp explorer?

When clicking Start>Settings>Control Panel> click on view button at top of page to change appearance of your files.5 different ways..hope this helps
