Windows explorer will randomly exit

I have this problem on a workstation in our company
all systems are the same hard and software
on 1 system i have this strange thing
Windows explorer will randomly exit for no apparent reason. I could be in the middle of a file tranfer, folder navigation, application launch, just running in the background and the program will close. Very annoying. If I am tranfering files, the transfer process terminates and corrupts the file (destination thankfully)
The only common thing is that the Taskbar and Start Menu flashes, the icons disappear, then reappear, of course without the Windows Explorer file folder icon....
hardware ibm pentium 4 3.2 512MB 80 GB

what can i do ?

Assuming that you have checked all the usual suspects (viruses,
adware/spyware using Spybot), then in my experience this problem is
often a memory or motherboard problem.

Check all that als
changed memory, motherboard, cpu, networkcard but still the problem is there
today i have build the harddisk in another workstation, but same problem so must be a software prob

that's why i'm lost
