How can I get windows explorer in XPto open the folders
list (column) on the left automatically when I start up
Windows Explorer? I don't like having to go to
View/Explorer Bar/Folders each time I open Windows
Explorer. With Windows 98 I got the two column format
automatically.

Thanks

Try setting up your Explorer Window the way you want it. Right click on the
top folder/drive you want to start in. Choose Copy from the drop down menu.
On your desktop right click and choose Paste Shortcut. This should provide
a shortcut to go to Explorer with the area you wish to see as the starting
point and the setup you want.

I have several shortcuts to Explorer. One goes there at the My Computer
level with the individual drives below so I can select what drive I want.
Another goes to Explorer at the My Music folder with my MP3 folders open
below, etc. A tip. Once you have a shortcut to Explorer, right click it,
choose Properties and rename it so you'll know exactly where that shortcut
takes you. I have shortcuts named Explore All, Explore C:, Explore My
Music, etc.
