Windows explorer variable icon

When you click on a folder in the Folder Pane in Windows Explorer the icon
changes from a closed folder to an open folder.

Trying to be clever I used the Folder Properties Customize Change Icon
option to put a different icon on a folder I was using a lot so that it would
stand out. Now I no longer need to highlight that folder I changed the icon
back to the default, but it no longer animates to show the open folder when I
click on it. Is there a way to reset this?

Grateful for advice.

Hi Simon

This usually happens when 'Windows Classic folders' is selected in Folder
Options in Control Panel.

Hi Simon

Just thought, have you checked that 'Animate Windows when minimising and
maximising' is enabled?

Right click 'My Computer' select 'Properties' then the 'Advanced' tab and
under 'Performance' section select 'Settings'.

Thanks for the ideas on this. The solution was even simpler. When I first
tried to reset the icon I right clicked on the folder name in the folder pane
and chose Properties. This meant that the folder was already selected and I
guess that this prevented the reset being properly impolemented.

When I navigated up one level and right clicked the target folder from the
right hand pane and reset the icon it worked properly and the icon now
animates properly.
