Windows Explorer takes forever to open large directories

Compared to FAT32 in win98, XP takes forever. I've
minimized the listed details to size, date, and type.
It still takes forever.

Help!

The time it takes your computer to boot depends on many
different things - speed/age of computer, number of
programs opened at start-up, etc. etc. Then there's the
possibility of a virus/spyware/trojan etc. etc.
