Windows Explorer Slows Down

Hi All,

I noticed that my computer performance slows down considerably if I browse
through my photos using Windows Explorer thumbnails. The problem only
occurs after viewing thousands of jpg files in the "thumbnails" setting, vs
the "details" setting. I tried enabling and disabling "do not cache
thumbnails", but this doesn't help. I have to restart the computer to
restore the performance. I have 1 GB of RAM, so I don't think that is the
problem. I tried changing the virtual memory (paging file) size but that
didn't help. I closed all other programs (except background processes), but
that doesn't help.

It seems that somehow the computer memory is being overloaded, and the only
way to clear the memory or paging file is to reboot. Any ideas?

By the way, if I browse the thumbnails using a graphics program, I don't
experience the slowdown problem. It only occurs when I use Windows
Explorer.

Thanx,

You may check on pagefile (virtual memory) usage with Page File Monitor
for XP:

Make sure you study the readme.txt file carefully to ensure
you get the utility to work as it should.

What readings are you getting towards the end of a session?

Hope this helps.
