Windows Explorer shut down

I have had Windows XP home edition installed for over 2
years. Recently, windows explorer shuts down while
viewing files or copying. Running program icons also
disappear from the toolbar. The timing is sporadic and I
have checked for viruses etc. Is there a way to reload
windows explorer or correct the problem. Thanks.

HGave you checked for a possible heat problem? Fans OK? Did you run the system
file checker program?
SFC /scannow
