Windows explorer setup

Using XP Home and have just found an annoying problem - probably some thing
I have done - but can't undo

In Windows Explorer - NOT INTERNET EXPLORER - I used to have a frame on the
left which when I pressed the 'Folders' icon in the tool bar gave me a dir
list

Now when I press 'Folders' a second time the frame disappears completely -
used to be a coloured panel

Any ideas how I can get it back

Silly request I know but I just cannot get used to a window that completely
fills my screen with one frame

Hi Mike,

Go to Tools>Folder Options and under the General tab, click in the radio
button beside "Show common tasks in folders", then click on Apply then OK.

recalled what we had done in order to undo it.
