Windows Explorer Setup Problem

G

Guest

I have a problem with Windows Explorer. I.m running Win/2K, SP4,
Update 1 to SP4. I like the view that has a folder/directory contents
on the right and a folder/directory tree on the left. One of my PCs
does just this. The other displays a blank grey box where the
directory tree should be. The setup is as identical as I can have it
between the 2 PCs. Fron Windows Explorer, if I select View, Explorer
Bar, I will see Folders checked. Its this way on both PCs.

Would someone please tell me where I have made an error?

What happens if you logon as a new user? (create a new account in 'User and
Passwords'). Try a Safe Mode boot. Also try a clean boot.
http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Autoruns.html
Clean boot = no non-microsoft services at startup, no third party apps at
startup.

Failing that copy the lines below into a file named 'IEReg.bat' and double
click it to run it. This will reregister some DLLs for IE and the operating
system. Restart for effect.

I'd like to thank Dave & John for their helpful replies. I have the
problem repaired.

The web link indicated that shdocvw.dll should be installed for IE6 &
browseui.dll for IE5.5. I have IE6 & browseui.dll was installed. I
ran regsvr32 /i shdocvw.dll. Win2K responded that there was an error
installing shdocvw.dll. I don't know what the error was, but a check
of the registry showed shdocvw.dll had replaced browseui.dll. The
problem had disappeared & Windows Explorer works as it should.

Thanks again.
