Windows Explorer not responding

I have a secure flash drive that I was trying to access for the first time
on Vista - couldn't do it. So I rebooted in XP, reformated the drive with
the updated utility for that drive which is supposed to be vista compatible.
Rebooted in Vista, tried the drive, but it still didn't work. But then I
tried exploring to other drives (copied flash contents to 2nd hard drive to
access what I needed) and it just hung up... tried several time, tried
different folders. I then completly shut down, booted in vista and same
thing - can't access any folders..... explorer not responding. Flash drive
is not on system - have tried many times now, fresh reboots and once in
Vista, I can't even explore any folders on the C drive.

Any suggestions?

I just wanted to add some info - I'm also thinking the flash drive probably
didn't have anything to do with it, but don't know of anything else that was
done prior to me being able to use explorer before.

Currently on Windows Vista Home Premium
Dual boot system, two hard drives one with XP SP2 one with Vista.
MoBo: ASUS P5N32-E, Intel Core2 2.4Ghz
2GB Ram
video adapter: Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS

current status - can't even access drives through programs, I go to Open
File, and no matter where I try to browse it ends up not responding.

Fixed it - was using icolorfolder (I'm surprised vista doesn't have this
function built in) and I disabled the utility at startup which caused the
system to hang on expanding folders, reinstalled the program and now
explorer is functioning properly.
