Readyboost error

I just bought a new laptop with Windows Vista on it. I plugged my flash
drive into the USB port, and got the pop up menu that asked if I wanted to
"Open Folder to View Files" or "Speed up My System" using Ready Boost.

I accidentally hit the Ready Boost button.

Since I did that, my flash drive is saying that its write-protected and I
can't delete or add any new information to it. In addition, a temp file
named "EMD341F.tmp" is on the flash drive and I can't delete it.

I tried right clicking on the flash drive, going into properties, but there
is no tab for readyboost for me to disable.

Is there anyway to save my flash drive, unwrite-protect it, and delete this
temporary file?

Is there the option to format when you right click on it?

I tried right clicking on the drive and going to properties, but the
readyboost tab does not appear.

But, it looks like running readyboost on the flash drive caused a 14-22 MB
temporary file to be saved on it that I can't get rid of because it says the
drive is write protected

What happens if you put the drive in a non-Vista machine?

When I move it to a non-vista machine, it still says that the tmp file is
write-protected when i to delete it, and it still won't let me save anyting
or create new folders on it.

On a Vista machine, I've even tried to run readyboost again, and when i do
that the properties dialogue box pops up, but there is still no readyboost
tab to click on.

The only option left is to try to format the drive.

Another thought. This drive doesn't have a "write Protect" switch on it,
does it? I do have a USB flash drive that does have one, and I know they
are on some SD flash media.

If there's no ReadyBoost (RB) tab on the properties for your flash drive,
Vista doesn't think it meets ReadyBoost requirements. (Whether or not it did
before...)

Have you tried removing the Read Only attribute on the temp file in
question? RBshould create a file named ReadyBoost.sfcache which will be the
same size as allocated to RB. It shouldn't write protect the drive. What
kind of error message do you get that says the drive itself is
write-protected?
