I found this KB article that describes my problem, but it did not resolve it
as I already had this in place.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/823291/en-us

Are there any other solutions? Using WinXP Pro with SP2. This has been going
on for a while.

Also another problem came up recently. I could not find a KB article on this
one. I think it's a Win XP issue because it happens in every app except
Office. So that clues me in that it's the OS.

If I open Windows Explorer from any application OTHER than Microsoft Office
applications, the list of files is unsorted. Whenever I need to attach a
file, download a file and tell the application where to put it., etc. the
file list isn't sorted and plus the headers aren't there.

This problem is a serious one as it takes me longer to find files in an
unsorted list.

Appreciate any help!

have you sorted as desired, then Tools, Folder Options, View, Apply to
All Folders?

Hi Meryl,

That issue is long standing as far as I know. I use PowerDesk Pro and
it refreshes immediately and is much better than Explorer. There is a
free version here (PD Pro 5.0):

but I use the paid version, as it's well worth it.

You should have a "View Menu" icon in the dialog boxes. Click on it and
select "Details". That will give you header sorting options. Every
program I checked on this machine has that option in a file dialog box.
