Windows Explorer Expanding Question

I'm hoping someone can help me with this windows explorer question.
I've searched the web for hours and can't find the answer anywhere.

When I open windows explorer, I have the folder tree visible in the
left window pane. If I click on the C: Drive ONCE on the left side,
it's folders and files will appear on the right side. If I double
click on one of those folders on the left side, the C: drive will
automatically expand on the left side and show ALL of the folders on
the C: drive.

If there are more than 100 folders in the C: drive and I double click
on a folder on the right side, only that folder I double clicked on
will show up on the left side under the C:. The rest of the folders
do not show up on the left side. I want my Explorer to behave this
way even if there is only 1 subfolder. I currently have 70 or 80
subfolders in drive C:. I am constantly having all 70 or 80 folders
appear on the left side when I double click on a folder on the right
side.

I know this is possible, it was set up as a default on an old work
computer I had. I assume it involves changing the registry somewhere,
but I can't figure out where. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

No need to get into the registry.

Open Explorer

Go to Tools -> Folder Options and select the "View" tab

Un Tick the option "Display simple folber view in explorers folder list"

I think this is the functionality you are after.

Thanks for the reply, but this is not exactly the functiontionality I
am looking for. Doing what you suggested does allow a folder to
expand on the left only when a folder on the right is double clicked,
which is nice. However, when I double click on a folder on the right
I only want that folder to show in the expanded list on the left. I
don't want all the subfolders to show up on the left.
