Every time my Windows XP Professional starts up, less
than 1 minute later, an error message appears: "Windows
Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We
are sorry for the inconvenience" and the screen briefly
flashes and the icons on the bottom right next to the
time disappear. I clicked the link for more information
and it says:
"Error signature
AppName: explorer.exe
AppVer 6.02800.1106
ModName: ~8176737779.tmp
ModVer: 0.0.0.0
Offset: 00003a6a"
I then clicked another link to view technial info which
gave a long list of codes I don't understand, but
underneat this it says "The following files will be
included in this error report: C:\DOCUME~1
\Temp\WER5.tmp.dir00\appcompat.txt"
This occurs every time I boot up my computer and Windows
starts. I am a college student, and this had never
happened before while I was using it in the dorm. But
when I brought my computer back home, I didn't have
internet connection for this, so I used it for non-
internet purposes, and the error has occurred ever since
then. I'd appreciate any help, thank you very much!

Have you looked at appcompat.txt to see what it says?
Based on it's name, something about compatibility?
Dave

I've tried searching for the appcompat.txt file using the
windows search program, but no files appear.

I'm having the same problem, this happens when I try to
open or explore my system drives and files. Don't know
why and I haven't yet found the answer
