Sounds like malware or virus infection. Have you scanned your machine lately
for viruses?

Hi Maria,
have you installed a 3rd-party codec pack (3rd-party - that is - other
than on Windows)? It's not a virus although a virus may have damaged your
codecs. Xvidcore.dll is installed on your Windows computer when you install
the XviD codec. You need to install this codec in order to play the XviD
movies on your computer. When you click on a video format file it's not a
simple as all that. Your computer searches for the appropriate
decompression software, it looks like that in this case it is actually a
XviD movie. Try reinstalling an extra codec pack. There is a few out there
free. I recommend this one for XP I have on mine, go to:
http://www.xpcodecpack.com/download ...and click on the link for
"XP-Codec-Pack_2.4.6.exe" at the top of the page.

Thank you Tim -- I did install a codec pack. I have downloaded the pack that
you directed me to and will install it tonight and inform you as to the
results.

I am running a thorough scan on my computer using AVAST Home Edition and
when I get home tonight I will install the codec pack.

fingers crossed
Maria

Dear Tim and Pegasus:

Thank you for ALLLLLLLL your help - it is greatly appreciated

Solution to problem:
- I ran the Spybot, Malwarebytes, CCleaner and Avast which ended up
locating 42 viruses and all have been deleted. Ran Avast 1 more time to see
if there was anything on my computer and (at this point) there is nothing.

- I also reinstalled the Codec Pac and am now able to move the AVI file to
my harddrive.

THANK YOU AGAIN
Have a Great Day
Maria

Thanks for the feedback. You now appear to have isolated the cause of your
problem. Have you also determined the underlying issue, i.e. how it was
possible to have 42 viruses on your machine? This is grossly excessive, even
by the most lax of standards.
