windows explorer default opening folder

E

Eli Aran

hello
I have win XP pro
I open windows explorer and the default folder I get opened is My Documents
I would like to know where and how I can change the default opening folder
in windows explorer to someplace else (e.g. c:\program files) or anywhere
else I choose.
my question is neither about creating a new shortcut to a folder in windows
explorer
nor about moving inside windows explorer from one place to another in the
file system.
I would like this change to become the (new) default opening location when I
go into windows explorer.
thank you

Go to Programs>Accessories - right click on the Windows Explorer icon,
select Properties and type or copy/paste the following into the Target box:

%systemroot%\EXPLORER.EXE /e,c:

Substitute the c: at the end for whatever you prefer. You can also create a
Desktop icon for Windows Explorer with the same command.

In addition to Malke's response here is an MS knowledge base article on how
to customize Windows Explorer's views. It explains how the command line
that Malke provided works.

Hi Eli
If you right click my computer and chose explorer it will open with
my computer displayed or if you right click the start button and chose
explorer it will highlight the users start menu. I like to make a
shortcut to explorer and add the switch

C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe /n,/e,/Select, C:\ in the target field.
It opens explorer like right clicking the my computer icon.
