Windows Explorer crashes

New laptop with Vista Premium.

I use Windows Explorer to manage & move files. Today Windows Explorer
crashed several times. Popup tells me it has stopped working & is searching
for a solution. Then it restarts and rearranges some of my desktop icons.
When I open Explorer again, it works for a while, then crashes again with the
same popups.

Tried starting eventvwr to look for errors. Popup said Microsoft Managenemt
Console has stopped working.

What's happening?
