Windows Explorer and AVI files

I'm getting an error message "The instruction at 0x04fb4155 referenced memory
at 0x00000000. The memory could not be written."

The error occurs when I attempt to access a specific directory on any of my
drives
(I have two physically separate drives, C & D) and that directory contains
an AVI file. I can use Windows Explorer to look at and open files in all
directories/subdirectories except ones with AVI files - the directory opens
and displays the directory but immediately I get the error. Explorer then
freezes and I must use Task Manager to close it.

I'm accessing Windows Explorer by clicking on My Computer. This is on a
Dell DImension with Windows XP/ SP2 and 1Mb of Dell supplied memory.

Any suggestions as to how to solve/cure (or direction to an MS solution)
would be appreciated.

That .avi file is damaged, most likely. Move it to a temp directory
(command prompt). If the problem is resolved, delete that file at the
command prompt.

I have several hundred AVI files spread across multiple subdirectories. ANY
directory I navigate to, produces the same results if it has an AVI file in
it - Windows Explorer crashes. I doubt that all my AVI files have suddenly
become damaged. If I move the AVI file elsewhere, the original directory is
immediately available using Explorer (?)

I do have other programs that will access the directories (such as Compupic)
and they don't crash and they display the AVI as if it's a functional file.

Thanks Kelly, but I don't think removing ALL my AVI files is the solution (I
assume that's what the "AVI search Remove" does). As I explained to Detlev -
I have several hundred AVI files spead across many directories and any time I
access a directory with an AVI file in it, Explorer crashes. Other programs
don't have any problems with the AVIs.
