Windows Explorer always displays wrong file size

I have my hard drive partioned into 3 drives. (C,D,E) I
want to verify how much spaced is used on my D Drive. So
I right click and choose properties on my D drive in
windows explorer. It tells me how much space is being
used but it is wrong. I have turned off Disk restore
thinking maybe this is it and I also have show all hidden
files and folders. Any ideas??

One more point....it seems like there is some hidden log
files, secret files used by the system or something that
it is counting that I can't see so I always get an
inaccurate display of space used. I would like to know
how to see these files that don't show up. And yes I do
have show hidden files and folders checked. Thanks

Uncheck "hide important system files" (or sth. very similar) .. and they will show up. And 2nd, try thinking that way, some programs use 1GB = 1024x1024 bytes others 1GB = 1000 x 1000 bytes ... this might confuse. Also on NTFS system can reserve quite a big amount of space for itself in "System Volume Information".

Also, you must take "slack space" into consideration. A file may only be 50
bytes in size, but will occupy an entire cluster. Depending on how your
drive has been set up when partitioned, this can result in a lot of wasted
space that can never be reclaimed, except by changing the discs' cluster
size to a smaller one.
