the windows key + e does not work to open my explorer? i
just formatted and re installed my os. i find it really
strange... could there be something i turned off?

Another one. This makes three. Me you and one person a while back. I do not know how to fix it. I tried everything. No luck. This was in Windows 2000 Professional SP4 with the .NET Framework installed and Microsoft Visual Studio.NET 2002. Does that ring any bells with you?

You know I do have something that might come close. You see mine really doesn't work right anymore. It used to but dosen't anymore. I tried a suggestion in this newsgroup didn't like the result and after which it turns out I cannot get back to what I had. I'm stuck with being unable to get the system back to the way it was before I tried the suggestion. I do not mean to crticize. I asked for it and so it is all my fault.

I wanted single pane folders ie My Documents My Computer to open by default with the folder pane enabled. The suggestion was to go to Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder options... | File Types | N\A Folder | Adavanced | set Open as the default. Now when we set something as default it will Bold. But before I did this nothing was bolded. I set Open as default and didn't like the result. Now that I did it I cannot get it back to where nothing is bolded. What to do? I asked but no one was able to answer it. So what I did was set Open as the default. Open is now bolded there.

Now guess what Windows+E does? It opens My Computer with the folder pane visible by default. (yup that's how the ball bounces) Which I don't like but it is better then nothing, eh? If I double-click My Computer the Window opens without the folder pane enabled by default. As normal. So that's not broke just my Window+E combo.

So what have you got to lose? Try it. Go to the location I gave you above. Set Open to the default. Then reset Explore to the default. See if you at least get something now when you do Window+E.
