Windows Desktop Search will not install.

Greetings all,
I just installed Windows Office 2007 on a XP Pro SP2 machine and I was
prompted to download and install Windows Desktop Search the first time I
opened Outlook.
Well, I downloaded it, but it will not install. I get the following error
message:

Setup Error

Windows Desktop Search 3.01 could not be installed on this system.

For more details, check the log file.
(C:\WINDOWS\KB917013.log)

If I go to the noted log, I find:

====================================================================
00:00.109: INFO: Opening log for preliminary WDSSetup.exe actions
00:00.140: Started: 2007/06/26 (Y/M/D) 14:52:06.234 (local)
00:00.156: Command line:
00:06.000: INFO: ****** Found 12 Read-Only keys. ******
00:06.031: ERROR: Error backing up the ACLs on the following keys:
00:06.031: INFO: HKLM\Software\Classes\.pps
00:06.062: INFO: HKLM\Software\Classes\.pps\PersistentHandler
00:06.078: INFO: Closing down log for WDSSetup.exe logging

If I go to the registry key referenced in the log, I get:

Cannot open .PPS
Error opening key.

My question is how do I get this Desktop Search to install on my system and
do I really need it?

FYI, there is a Windows Desktop Search forum, you might want to post there.

Sorry I can't answer if you really need it. I have not used it.

I solved this issue by wresting ownership of the mentioned registry keys and
sub-keys. I still do not know what application took ownership of them
though. Install proceeded normally after ownership was granted to the
administrator group.
