Windows Defender freezes/hangs-up when it gets to the object "c:\program
files\zone alarmsb\bar\history\search2. I have been using defender for the
better part of 18 months and never had a problem. Can u help?

Hi Rbee,

Have you installd or tried a Zone Alarm toolbar recently?

If you are confident the offending entry is nothing more than a PITA ... try
this.. In WD Tools>Options>Advanced Options>Do not scan these files or
locations .... Run WD and observe ....

I apologize, after watching WD for a few scans I now realize that WD freezes
anywhere during the scan, not just ZA. In safe mode it performs ok, no
freezes. Is there a fix?

Are you sure its freezing? Are we talking minutes/hours? Do you have the scan
within archives option selected? This can `slow down` overall scanning
performance with any AS scanner.

Are these full scans?

What happens if you just leave it alone and let it run--give it some hours??

Hello rb,

Perhaps some maintenance,

First clear up your Temp File/Cache, Reboot and try again. Best and easier
to use CCleaner.

Note, uncheck Yahoos Toolbar

Download the basic version via
<http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds.aspx>

In the Utilities category, uncheck WindowsDefender. Having this checked
removes the history of when the last scan was run.

First, try running chkdsk to check the Hard Drive for inconsistencies.
Then run a defrag:
