Windows Defender Does not Turn Up if One Care subscription is ove

Prakash

I have not renewed my expired subscription of Windows One Care which was
offered to me by Microsoft free six months back.
Now when trying to turn on my DELL installed Windows Defender program I am
getting a message that it is not getting Turned ON with error code showing
Time out Error.
On notifying this problem on MS site "Help and Support" I found this message:
"This issue occurs because Windows Defender is disabled when you install
Windows Live OneCare. Windows Live OneCare determines whether Windows
Defender is enabled whenever you start the computer. If Windows Live OneCare
finds that Windows Defender is manually enabled, Live OneCare will disable
Windows Defender.
Note Windows Live OneCare includes the antispyware component of Windows
Defender. Therefore, Windows Defender does not have to be running when
Windows Live OneCare is running."
Well, MS the monolith has snatched away my original product by offering a
free six months trial of a product I hardly needed!
What to do now? I don't want to continue with ONE CARE at least for the time
being. But want to turn on Defender. HOW TO?

You DO need an antivirus product, and Windows Defender is not one.

That is not directly relevant to the issue you're posting about in the
narrow sense, however.

Have you uninstalled Windows Live OneCare, via control panel, add or remove
programs?

Have you replaced Windows Live OneCare by another antivirus product? If so,
that antivirus product may also disable WIndows Defender.
