Windows Defender Updates

I have an icon that keeps telling me that a Windows Defender update is
availabe for download. I download and install the update, yet when I open
Windows Defender, the message under the tool bar tells me that my definitions
haven't been updated in 14 days. And the icon in my taskbar that signals a
MS update never disappears after the download.

I never had a problem with the Beta 1 version, but I can't say that I like
the Beta 2 version. Seems problematic.

I have exactly the same problem - very annoying. When I click on the update
button, the system eventually tells me that the engine and database are up to
date.

Same problem here. Seems like a number of people have experienced this
judging from the number of "fixes" posted. I don't think that we should have
to jump through hoops to use this beta program.

Thanks for the fix site. I'll give it a shot and see what happens. I'll
post if it doesn't.

I had tried this in the past to no avail. I finally removed and reinstalled
WD. The fix was, then, in. Seems to me that this would be an easy thing to
fix for Microsoft instead of filling up these newsgroups. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for posting the solution. I had installed the download 21 times to no
avail. All that seemed to be happening was Windows Defender telling me how
many days since my last update. It has been a few frustrating days.

Thanks again.

I tried this solution, it did not work for me. I have both the defender icon
in the taskbar telling me my definitions are out of date, and also the
windows update shield in the taskbar telling me it has an update to install.
This goes round and round and round, with both downloading the update,
installing it, and telling me the update has been applied and everything
again is rosy and right with the world.

Then it immediately tells me there is a new update, and my definitions are
15 days old. The defender display never shows green after the update...it
looks like the update is applied, but it is not.

Quite frustrating. I'll tell you how frustrating...I may discard this
garbage beta and go back to Symantec, for crissake. That should tell you how
frustrating this is *LOL*

I too am so frustrated. I never had a problem with the Beta 1 version ..
worked like a charm. I'm going to look for another real time sypware/adware
application to use. This is more trouble than it's worth .. even if it is
free. They might want to try to work the bugs out a little better b4
releasing it the next time.

I think we all get frustrated at microsoft for putting out a piece of garbage
like this. The one thing we can't lose sight of is the fact that this is just
a beta version.

Yeah, it was free, and a beta...but...I would think that Microsoft would have
included a fix in the next available download. Maybe they will yet. I had the
same problem as everyone else, and the posted fix did work. If it happens
again, and Microsoft hasn't attempted a fix...I will ditch it.

I hear ya dm .. I only have so much patience and time to tinker around with
computer things that don't work .. free or not. I'm already scoping out apps
that are available as an alternative just in case it doesn't stay on track.
I'm going to look for a place on their website to email them regarding the
problem. They should be interested in consumer feedback about a big problem
in a beta version. If I find a place to email them comments about this
product, I'll post it here.

FAQ says the have MS support staff monitor the discussion groups so they
would have to be aware of the problem by now. This is not the only group
that seems to be talking about update problems. So if staff reads here and
if I run into anymore glitches, trust me, I'll post about them. What is it
they alway say "If it's broke, fix it!!" :)
