Windows Defender out of date?

In my security centre it says that Windows Defender is out of date yet when i
click on 'Update now' it says no new updates are available. I also have
Bullguard running on my computer, is this giving me enough protection if
Defender isn't working properly? I have tried to install a new version of
Defender but it says i have a version installed anyway. What do i need to do
to get Defender working properly as i keep getting icons pop up from the icon
bar telling me that Defender is out of date?

What version and date of definitions show on the Defender home page?

You can go here:

www.microsoft.com/security/portal

and download the 32-bit definitions for Defender in the right-hand column.

If your definitions are indeed out of date, I'd try that first to see if
they install OK. If they do, keep an eye over the next few weeks to see if
automatic updates resume.

You should also check that WindowsUpdate is working correctly on your
system: Go to Windows Update and do an express scan, and install anything
offered.

Brilliant! I downloaded the 32-bit definition for Defender and it is back to
normal.

Thanks very much!

Excellent. Check that Windows Update is also functional, and keep an eye
out for the next automatic update--if that goes through, I think you are
fine.

Thanks "chrisr"! This just happened to me also, and I finally found the
solution here. It seems to be working perfectly again. Thanks again and keep
up the good work! Jason
