Windows Defender -- Scan Schedule

This is no longer automatically scanning as per my saved scan schedule. Why
would this have happened, and what do I need to do?

1) restart your computer. Especially if you are in the habit of letting it
sleep or hibernate, rather than restarting it. The scheduled scan is
re-scheduled at each startup.

2) If that doesn't do it, and your machine is running Windows XP, do a
repair reinstall of Windows Defender--which you can do via control panel, add
or remove programs, Windows Defender,
