Windows Defender installation error 1920

Attempting to install Windows Defender on Windows 2000 SP4.
Installation halts with this error: [note: the word "Service" repeats]

"Error 1920.Service Service Windows Defender Service (WinDefend) failed to
start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."

I have logged in as different administrator users but receive the same error.

Anyone else seen this?

I had the exact same problem with you. I manage to resolve it by installing
update rollup 1.
But now im getting another different error. 0x80040154, which is unrelated
to the installation i guess.

Have you been to Windows Update and applied all offered critical updates,
since seeing that 0x80040154 error?

Yes, i finally get it run without error after going into the windows update.
I've posted this in another thread i think.
