Windows Defender Error 0x80010005 ... need help

I continually get the following pop-up when my computer starts:

Windows Defender
Application failed to initialize: 0x80010005

I supposedly have the latest Defender updates (KB915597 - definition
1.16.2421.5)

Anyone have ideas? Is there a way to delete/uninstall Defender and
re-install? This is annoying....

Thanks,
Walter

In Vista Home Premium shouldn't I be able to see this error in Event viewer?
If so, where and how do I find it because I have yet to be able to.

Try looking in the Summary of Administrative Events in Event Viewer for
events occurring in the Last Hour, right after you get the error, for Event
Types that are Critical, Error, Warning, etc., to help narrow your search.

You might also try going to C:\Users\All Users\Microsoft\Windows
Defender\Support to see if the MPLog is saying anything about your error.

In the meantime, see if toggling the "Use real-time protection" check-box,
in Windows Defender >Tools > Options, alleviates the error. If it's on,
turn if off, or if it's off, turn it on, clicking Save after making the
change.

Did everything you mentioned without success. I toggled-off the Defender
real-time and re-booted but upon reboot got the same error.

Thanks...still looking...

I also get a page flash before I can read and then I see a windows help
screen.
Am i taken over again and they disabled defender? Am I led to a fake
