Windows Defender-beta 2 problems - Is it worth it and are there solutions?

I posted this to one of the MS help groups and there doesn't seem to be
any so perhaps someone here has a solution. Tell me, is this program
really worth the hassle?

OS - Windows 2000 pro

I had the same problem as many others with the old beta 2 version
(updates being installed again and again), so I deleted Windows Defender
and installed the new version. It then updated the engine and
definitions to:

Windows Defender Version: 1.1.1347.0
Engine Version: 1.1.1303.0
Definition Version: 1.14.1395.2

I still can't seem to update to 1.1.1396.12. Whenever I try to update
within the program, I get the "no new definitions are available" pop-up.
I'm also still in the constant update loop with the latest signature
version trying to install itself.

I just ran "Msiexec /x {A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C}" to
uninstall the definitions, and when I opened Windows Defender I saw the
same versions and the same message appeared when updating:

"no new definitions are available"!

Windows Defender Version: 1.1.1347.0
Engine Version: 1.1.1303.0
Definition Version: 1.14.1395.2

Any solutions?

Tried uninstalling again, cleaned registry with Regscrub and Regseeker,
used CCleaner and still can't get past the 1.14.1395.2 definition
version.

Could Mike Lin's Start-up monitor have anything to do with it?
I've never had problems in the past. I doubt it because I allow the the
program to update.

I am certainly having my doubts - always difficult to update.

I originally recommended to a few people that they update to this
product and now regret it.

I know it is a beta program so I am not expecting perfection but this
one, to date, seems to have more than its fair share of difficulties.

Will be interested in hearing the views of any experts out there.
Especially Siljaline.

I'm far from expert but have had no problems at all. As we all know,
everyone has a different combination of hardware/software on their
computer, I don't know the reason some have problems and others don't
but.... you might try an experiment if you're willing, see what happens
when you try updating after removing some existing software?

I had no problems with Windows Defender until their latest build was
released last week. Suddenly, Windows Defender starting creating 'Windows
Defender Checkpoints' in System Restore. I had 6 created yesterday.
Decided to uninstall the program and wait until more bugs are fixed.

I tried downloading this and installing it, although on XP. Has come up with
3 different error messages so far, and hat's during the installation. So I'm
not gonna bother yet either.
