(I have not seen 'version 6' on the current product, but apparently this
is an update, as of 13.03.2007)

Despite what the web page says, this refuses to install over my existing
WD (Version 1.1.1593, Engine 1.1.2204.0)

"Note: If you have version 1.1.1592.0, you must first manually uninstall
Windows Defender before you can install this newer version. To configure
or remove the existing version, use Add/Remove programs in the Control
Panel. "

Well, I have 1.1.1593, and it still does not.

Based on the experience of the last time they did this,
there will be and mpas-fe or mpas-d (full engine or delta update) almost
immediatly after/or in conjuction with this.

Engel, our dear friend,
Could you install the new version, 7, after uninstalling the old of course,
and see if there is an sig/engine update to follow and post the link.

please, please, please, please, please, please, :)

with thanks in advance,

?:)

Well, thanks. Sorry you had to go through uninstalling/installing it to
find out. BetaNews.com is reporting this as a new release (and Microsoft's
page isn't helping)...

Is it supposed to be available on MU? That's how I have received a number of
other patches/definitions to WD.

Is this correct in saying were going from Defender Version 1.1.1593.0
to just Defender Version 7.0 ? - and so far there is nothing on WU
or check for update.

Occam,

I'm sorry, but I got the impression from your earlier posts that you have
NOT been able to get the "7" to install,

anyone from Microsoft around to confirm this is not the same one as version
1.1.1593.0?
Normally Joe comes in here and announces a new version

I thought I'd check it out. There isn't much difference in the "old" version
and "new", just a different product number.

Old
Windows Defender Version: 1.1.1593.0
Engine Version: 1.1.2204.0
Definition Version: 1.15.2336.7
Product ID: 81664-850-9819985-04545

New
Windows Defender Version: 1.1.1593.0
Engine Version: 1.1.2204.0
Definition Version: 1.15.2336.7
Product ID: 81664-830-9262522-04101

so technically it is the same- why would micorosoft change the version
number it if it is the same?

The most recent *installer* is WindowsDefender.msi v7.0; the installer is
not "Windows Defender v7.0".

AFAIK Windows Defender still stands at v1.1.1593.0.

Why are they showing the installer version? This was not their practice
before:

http://72.14.203.104/search?q=cache...A0D+Windows+defender&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=2&gl=us

This seems to be poorly communicated, given that very shortly after
"Version: 7.0", the current page states "This is the most current release of
Windows Defender. If Windows Defender informed you that an update is
available, you are running an older version. We encourage you to upgrade to
this version. You can check your version of Windows Defender by clicking the
down arrow next to the help icon and choosing ‘About Windows Defender’."
