Well it was just released today. But 1592 most have had a serious problem to release a new version so soon.

I am using 1592 in conjuction with WLOC, I have not rcvd any notice to
upgrade defender, should I or wait until I am told to?

Yes that may be better. The new version only adds ways to collect information on attacks or something like that.

Will those who did not install the new version manually will eventually get
the installation of the new one with Automatic Updates? If so, will the
Automatic Updates process will unistall the old version? (i.e, sort of like
the new Automatic Updates of Internet Explorer 7).

I doubt it very much. WD is not an integral part of Windows; IE is an
integral part of windows; One always need IE to run Windows and to get
updates but one doesn't need WD to run Windows. This is the main
difference between the two products.

My versions are as follows:

Windows Defender Version: 1.1.1347.0
Engine Version 1.1.1609.0
Definistion V ion: 1.14.1828.5

My Windows Defender version is way below the newly announced 1.1.1593.0, but
how come that I have the Engine Version and the Definition Version up to
date? What are these, any way? And how come that these are updated, but
not the WD Version?

As a last question, please also advise (confirm) if I need to install the
new 1.1.1593.0 and if I do so, if I need to unistall the old 1.1.1347.0
before doing it?

Thanks in advance.

Hello Octavio,

Yes, you have to unistall the WD. Exit the program, and go to Add/Remove
programs, from here remove WD.

Reboot.

I'd recommend re-downloading, and saving to a known location--like the
desktop.

Use thislink for the Donwload
http://www.microsoft.com/communitie...2fb3&mid=a2ab3707-6a6c-42cf-9483-1eba94dd2fb3

After the download is complete, disable real-time protection by your
antivirus for long enough to do the installation. please disable or turn off
as much other software that always runs as you can--real time antivirus
scanning, any other antispyware software, (Stop all programs that are open in
the bottom taskbar) etc.

I hope this post is helpful, let us know how it works ºut.

Actually, we have a post stating that the upgrade to 1593 from beta2 did not
require an uninstall--so I'd recommend trying without the uninstall.

As to whether or not to do it--the newer UI code definitely has
improvements--but if you want to avoid the possibility of having to do an
uninstall-download-reinstall in the future, you might want to wait for the
formal announcement within beta2.

After reading Engel's message I unistalled the old ersion and installed the
new version. Will tell you eventually how well it is doing in my computer.
By the way, is this new version 1593 still considered a Beta (Beta 3?), or
it is a more finialized release?

Windows Defender is supposed to be out of beta now.

My understanding is that it is released, but the uninstall/reinstall needed
between 1592 and 1593 is unusual for a released product. In addition, they
haven't posted links to allow folks to make use of the 2 free support
incidents, nor links for support venues of whatever sort--so I'm not sure
what to call the current status!
