Windows Crashes (Heeeeelp!)

OK it all started about two months ago when I started experiencing frequent lock ups or crashes. (i.e. one of two things happens, either the computer just restarts automatically or the mouse stops responding and the only thing you can do is manually press restart or power down and power back up) I plugged in an external hard drive and the crashes seemed to come more frequently. It then got to the point where booting up normally just put the system into a constant restart. The only way to access windows was to boot up in safe mode, which seems to work ok but occasionally will also lock up. These are the steps I've already taken to try and solve the problem

* Got latest virus definitions updated and ran full scan - no result
* Ran PC configuration utility tool to check the compatability of all hardware installed - checked o
* Checked fan to make sure both were running - it never goes above 92 degree
* Replaced mous
* Went into Windows and changed settings to not restart on error
* Went into BIOS and changed power settings to turn off computer in the event of a power issue - but power never turned off
* Did a reinstall of Windows XP keeping all files intact - no such luc
* Completety wiped off all information on both hard drives and formatted both of them and put a fresh copy of windows x
* took out all peripherals except for video card (NIC, sound card etc.
* replaced video card, (this seems to have gotten me back to the point where it starts up but locks shortly thereafter instead of going through a constant restart

PS - it also does not log any errors in eventvw

The only other thing I can think of is to swap out the motherboard but before I do that I was wondering if anyone else had any suggestion

Have you tried to swap out the ram. Biggest cause of problems in XP are
caused by the memory ram. Testing software is very undependable.Jym
