Windows could not start

Several times over the past few days I've gotten the following error message
(white on a black screen) when starting my computer:

Windows could not start because of an error in the software. Please report
the problem as: load needed DLLs for kernel.
Please contact your support person to report this problem.

After restarting several times, I've been able to finally get windows to
load. Any idea what's going on?

Now windows won't start at all and I'm getting the following error msg:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\WINDOWS\system32\c_1252.nls

When I checked that error msg at support.microsoft.com, it says to insert
the Windows XP CD. However, the HP computer that I have didn't come with any
Windows CD's. At this point (since I can't load windows), the HP manual only
leaves me the option of "system recovery", which will wipe out all my data.
I've ran chkdsk /r, which did it's thing, but above message came up still.
Any suggestions? THanks.

forum.microsoft.com

go safe mode and try copy out your data

or add another hard drive and recover os to the new hard drive(safest is
remove and replace the old drive first)

once done you can copy data into your new drive or just mount as second
drive and use the data that way

Hi Kite,

Error: "C_1252.nls File Missing or Corrupt" During Startup
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;830088&Product=winxp
You will need your XP CD installation media to perform this procedure of
copying the corrupt file to your system, or you can borrow another CD the
same specs as yours (OEM Vs Retail XP CD).
