Windows cannot properly recognize hardware

Hi

We have a DVD and a cd-writer connected to the secondary IDE channel. Pretty
standard. The problem is that since last few days windows have stopped
recognising the two - they do not appear in windows explorer. When checked
under hardware, they both have yellow 'bang' icons and the message under
their properties says "Windows successfully loaded the device driver for
this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)". What does
this mean? Have the DVD and cd-writer gone kaput?

Thanks

Check all the cable connections, also try connecting the power connector
from a drive that currently works to one of these drives. I had a short in a
wire on one circuit from the PS and had similar problems. When you test you
may need to test each drive individually with the proper jumper settings to
isolate the problem.
