DVD not recognized

My first post. A few weeks ago xp would not recognize my cd writer or dvd
player. Needing to update my hardware anyway, I went ahead and purchased a
new dvd recorder replacing my cd reader/writer and dvd player with one unit.
The new one dvd is not recognized either. Upon installation, it finds the dvd
but says there are problems. (Maybe a corrupted registry I think it says) In
the hardware profile it lists the dvd drive but has a yellow question mark by
it. When I uninstall my drivers for the dvd and try to reinstall new
hardware, the same things happens. I've purchased the registry mechanic and
it found and fixed a ton of things but I still have the problem. I use
ccleaner also. My harddrive and usb jumb drives are working as normal. Any
ideas would be greatly appreciated.

And I'll guarantee that it "fixed" things that didn't need fixing.

You went from bad to worse.

Hi,

Try this:

Copy the text below between the dotted lines, but not the dotted lines
themselves. Open Notepad and paste it in. Save the result in a
suitable location as drive.reg - making sure that the default .txt
extension doesn't appear in the file name.
Double-click on the saved .reg file to merge the contents.
Restart.

That was the fix. Thanks for your help. My next stop would have been the
repair shop. Not anymore. Have a great day, God bless.
