Windows cannot find file...

WinXP Home, SP1. Can anyone tell me if this sounds like an OS problem,
or related to an older program misbehaving?

The program (Corel Presentations 8) has been working just fine until
recently. Clicking a desktop link to the file "xyz.shw" always opened
the program. Now, about half the time the program hangs up. Task Manager
then shows two instances of the Application running. By killing both
instances, the hung program goes away, followed by two consecutive error
messages "Windows cannot find 'C:\Media\xyz.shw' Make sure you typed the
name correctly...etc." Of course, if I open Properties of the link, and
Find Target, it is there.

Oddly, the Processes tab shows only one instance of PRWIN8.EXE running.
Killing that process also closes the hung program.

Putting the files in another location, and/or clicking directly on the
file instead of a link, makes no difference. It's about 50/50 the
program works properly, or hangs up. Using Presentations File>Open
dialog seems to work every time, but the dialog box seems sluggish about
opening.

Any ideas? All help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Larry

Have you tried removing the application and then reinstalling it?
