windows 98 se to windows 2000 professional upgrade

I have purchased the windows 2000 upgrade. I currently
run 98 second edition and have heard there are many
problems with this type of upgrade. My questions are 1)
Does the upgrade work, and what should I look out for, 2)
are there any special steps I need to take install the
upgrade 3) do I need to install SP4?

1) The upgrade should work (I've never done it myself but
I have from Win95).
Things to look out for - read everything twice and think
through all your answers twice and nothing should go wrong

2) Just one special step - take a backup of any data on
the computer.

3) MS recommend SP4, but some people will say it doesn't
work. Try it. If it doesn't work, come back here and ask
people for help again.

I went the same route, but did a clean install of Win 2K Pro to a second
drive, therefore dual booting. Then I installed SPA. From what I have been
reading in this n/g and in other Win 2K groups, SP4 is buggy.
