Windows 2k slow.. help needed...

Hi All,

If i'm in wrong newsgroup direct me to right one ..

I got a Compaq box in my Office with PIII, 128 MB and
Windows 2k running on it.

My PC is too slow i don't know what's the reason and i
tried all the tricks but in vain. I can't get more RAM -
company won't give. (That's what one of side effect of
Economic slowdown and added to it if u work in a telecom
giant)
And System admin people argue that 128 MB and p3 is more
than sufficient for day to day work i can't argue with
them.

I removed all unwanted Applications from my PC and i'm on
bare minimal programs. I tried to increase Page file size
but that wouldn't help much either.

When i check Task manager's CPU And Memory stats all they
show is fine mem is not even 50% full.

The most painful is opening any new application like
Acrobat or word or power point.

Even booting up is painfully slow.

Any help/trick is appreciated.

Regards
Ajay

In Task Manager, what size is your paging file? Do you notice your hard
drive working a lot, even when you don't think it should be? If so, it
sounds like the system ram may be on the light side. If adding memory is not
possible, the best suggestion is to limit the number of programs you have
open at any given time.

Ajay,

After you have done everything you can with software, the
only solution left is hardware. For office work, the best
way to speed up a machine is new CPU, more RAM, or a
faster hard drive.

Sorry, sounds like you are out of luck. Maybe they will
let you bring in your computer from home to work on.
