Hello All,

It's been a while since i last carried out such a move, but this weekend i
have to move our current Win 2K DC to a newer/bigger server.

This newer server will be built with Win 2K server.

Can i kind sole, refresh my memory with the correct process to follow and
any good pointers or work arounds.

The current server, has no major GP setup, no exchange and only a handful of
user accounts.

Any help and assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Thanks John, but not quite what i was after..

I was thinking of a new rebuild, and then something like domain/forest
prep?, than demote old Dc and promte new DC.

Is that correct guys?

Thanks again for any heads up.. :)

Hello PeOpLeS,

You can just install the new W2K server, configure the NIC to point to the
old DNS/DC, promote it to a DC, be sure to install DNS also on the new one.
Give it some time to replicate alll AD information. After that make it a
GC server and move the FSMO rules to the new DC. Copy all your data if necessary.
Give everything a little time to work properly. If you get some errors, so
you know what you have done last. Then change the DNS setting from your new
DC to itself and change the DNS settings from the old DC to the new one.
If everything is still working, test your system with shutting down the old
DC for some hours.
If everything is still working, user logins, DNS and all you use, then start
it again and run dcpromo to demote the old DC.

Best regards
