Windows 2003 VPN

I configured a vpn on a windows 2003 server. the vpn works when connnection
is made from a windows xp computer on the intranet, but fails when a
connection attempt is made from the internet. "Error 678 There was no
answer." I have opened port 1723 and 47. For IP protocol 47, I had to make a
GRE Service and opened TCP port 47. Is this correct. What suggestions do you
have. or any clue as to what could be wrong.

GRE is IP protocol 47 not TCP port. Make sure your router is VPN
pass-through.

Error 678 isn't usually associated with GRE problems. GRE problems
usually show up as 721 errors.

A 678 error means that the server did not respond. Are you connecting to
the firewall's public IP? Have you forwarded tcp port 1723 from the firewall
to the private IP of the RRAS server?
